Deborah L. Schafer, DDS, PC
Dr. Schafer grew up in a small town in South Western New York near the Pennsylvania border, called Findley Lake. She attended Clymer Central School, a perennial Section VI athletic powerhouse. Dr. Schafer was a stand-out athlete in volleyball, basketball and softball during her high school years. Graduating at the top of her class, she then attended Colgate University majoring in Biology. Dr. Schafer graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society while at Colgate. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1985, Dr. Schafer attended Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry in Cleveland, Ohio, receiving a Presidential Scholarship based on her successful undergraduate experience and a top 1% score in NYS on the Dental School Admissions Test. She graduated in the top of her class and was elected into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Honorary Dental Society.
Opting to attend the University of North Carolina for her orthodontic residency training Dr. Schafer spent 3 years in Chapel Hill learning many advanced clinical techniques and earning her Master of Science degree. She also enjoyed a multitude of awesome sporting events including watching Mia Hamm during her incredible collegiate soccer career and Dean Smith during his final years with the UNC Men’s Basketball team.
Upon returning to upstate New York, Dr. Schafer associated with a large orthodontic office in Canandaigua for 2 years prior to opening her own practice in Wayland in 1993. Dr. Schafer now resides in Wayland with her son, Gavin Burke. When not practicing orthodontics, Dr. Schafer enjoys walking for fitness, movies, reading, and supporting community activities. Of course she loves UNC basketball, Yankees baseball, and following WAY-CO and other local high school sport’s teams.
Dr. Schafer is a member of the New York State Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the North East Society of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the World Federation of Orthodontists.
Katie – Office manager
When I started working for Dr. Schafer 15 years ago, I was a clinical orthodontic assistant. I currently am the financial and scheduling coordinator. I strive each day to make your visit to our office as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. My goal is to have each patient and parent leave happy and pleased with our staff.
In my free time, I try to spend as much time as possible with my daughter, Carson. I enjoy my day trips to Ithaca to see her and try to hike at the state parks the Ithaca area has to offer. Carson is currently a sophomore Occupational Therapy major at Ithaca College. I also love spending time with my 8 year old black lab, Duke and my 5 month old Golden Doodle, Bentley. I look forward to the times I can walk for fitness, ski, work in my yard, and relax with a good book.
Sandra – Clinical Assistant
My name is Sandra Briggs. I was born and raised in Cohocton where I now own a home with my husband and our three children Eythan, Caitlyn, and Jayce.
Our Children have always been involved in sports, so during our free time if we are not at one of Caitlyn’s dance recitals or an Ice Hockey game of Eythan’s and soon to be Jayce you can find camping during the spring, summer, and fall seasons.
During the winter months we build a backyard ice rink where we spend a lot of time with family and friends.
I have been a part of Dr. Schafer’s Orthodontic team for 5years. It has been great getting to know the faces and families of our community as well as the surrounding communities.
Bryttani - Clinical Assistant
My name is Bryttani Brown. I was born and raised right here in Wayland. I now own my own home with my boyfriend Scott, my son Trenton, and daughter Emmielou.
Trenton, who is now 4, is a very active little boy and enjoys keeping me busy. He enjoys the outdoors and dinosaurs. He absolutely loves his little sister, Emmielou. She is just a few months short of 1 year, but has a strong personality and enjoys getting into everything. So in our free time, we are usually outdoors, visiting the zoo, or just spending time with the family.
The dental field was always a dream of mine to work in and now that I have been working with Dr. Schafer and the staff for a little over a year, there is nowhere else I would rather be. I have enjoyed this experience and getting to know all the patients and parents. I look forward to many more years here with this great staff and all the patients.
