Deborah L. Schafer, DDS, MS
Dr. Schafer grew up in a small town in South Western New York near the Pennsylvania border, called Findley Lake. She attended Clymer Central School, a perennial Section VI athletic powerhouse. Dr. Schafer was a stand-out athlete in volleyball, basketball and softball during her high school years. Graduating at the top of her class, she then attended Colgate University majoring in Biology. Dr. Schafer graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society while at Colgate. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1985, Dr. Schafer attended Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry in Cleveland, Ohio, receiving a Presidential Scholarship based on her successful undergraduate experience and a top 1% score in NYS on the Dental School Admissions Test. She graduated in the top of her class and was elected into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Honorary Dental Society.
Opting to attend the University of North Carolina for her orthodontic residency training Dr. Schafer spent 3 years in Chapel Hill learning many advanced clinical techniques and earning her Master of Science degree. She also enjoyed a multitude of awesome sporting events including watching Mia Hamm during her incredible collegiate soccer career and Dean Smith during his final years with the UNC Men’s Basketball team.
Upon returning to upstate New York, Dr. Schafer associated with a large orthodontic office in Canandaigua for 2 years prior to opening her own practice in Wayland in 1993. Dr. Schafer now resides in Wayland with her son, Gavin Burke. When not practicing orthodontics, Dr. Schafer enjoys walking for fitness, movies, reading, and supporting community activities. Of course she loves UNC basketball, Yankees baseball, and following WAY-CO and other local high school sport’s teams.
Dr. Schafer is a member of the New York State Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the North East Society of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the World Federation of Orthodontists.
